New Welsh homes to be warmer, cheaper to run

Posted by Jeff Rees on October 30, 2007 9:13 PM |

The most significant improvements to the energy efficiency of new homes in 30 years come into effect from tomorrow, meaning warmer, dryer and healthier homes, says the Building and Construction Minister Clayton Cosgrove.
“These reforms will see New Zealanders living in good quality homes that are warmer, drier, healthier and cheaper to run. This will deliver a triple win for our health, our environment and lower gas and electricity bills,” said Mr Cosgrove.
The government is also introducing changes which make it easier to get a building consent for solar heating systems and will require more energy-efficient lighting and heating/ventilation systems in commercial buildings.

All this and the Government of New Zealand does not have to get permission from the British each time they want to improve the lives of New Zealanders. Powers over all building regulation in Wales must be held by a Welsh Government not the British.

Welsh homes are not good for the health! Powers to renovate your home in Wales should be decided in Wales alone.

I have lived in 9 homes / houses over the last seven years (Cardiff, Aberystwyth, Machynlleth), only once I was satisfied with the heating system. Listed houses should be fitted with better windows - new windows, after all they are not part of an open air museum but a home.

The main problems of running a home in Wales is the too high council tax (and the councils often do not do anything)

Solar system in Wales - with all the rain? Okay, they have solar which can be won at night-time now I have read somewhere.
