WALES'S POWER STATIONS

Posted by Jeff Rees on August 21, 2007 1:03 PM |

The Danish Energy Authority was established in 1976, and as of 18 February 2005 is an Authority under the Ministry of Transport and Energy.
The Danish Energy Authority carries out tasks, nationally and internationally, in relation to the production, supply and consumption of energy. This means that the Authority is responsible for the whole chain of tasks linked to the production of energy and its transportation through pipelines to the stage where oil, natural gas, heat, electricity etc. are utilised for energy services by the consumer.
By establishing the correct framework and instruments in the field of energy, it is the task of the Danish Energy Authority to ensure security of supply and the responsible development of energy in Denmark from the perspectives of the economy, the environment and security.
It is the task of the Danish Energy Authority to advise the minister, to assist other authorities, to administer Danish energy legislation and to conduct analyses and assessments of the development in the field of energy, nationally and internationally.

In Denmark the Danes decide independently and lay down guidelines for the best possible production and distribution of energy, having consideration for such issues as security of supply, cost-efficiency and international commitments. In Wales the British still have the powers to decide.

A £400m power station which will create 650 skilled jobs in South Wales has been given the final go-ahead. Severn Power has been given the green light to build the plant at Newport, by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (British).

These decisions need to be taken in Wales by the Senedd for the benefit of the Welsh economy, just as they are in Danmark and Scotland, the British should not interfere. All powers concerned with energy must be transferred to the Senedd.

I am very worried about Wales's nuclear power stations! Good that Yr Wylfa will be closed in 2010. What sort of tourists want to holiday near a power station? Really?! France, Russia & GB have the most nuclear power stations, then Germany. Lots of risks because of uran. The rate of women with breast cancer is worrying in Wales. In 2006, a television documentary revealed the results of a survey, suggesting that cancer rates in women under 50 near the Welsh power station Trawsfynydd is over 15 times the UK average. How frightening!! Health in Wales is not important!! For such a small country there are too many nuclear power stations here if you ask me. Find something else to produce. What is needed in Wales are good builders, decorators, social workers and electricians instead!!!
