WALES'S LOCAL INCOME TAX

Posted by Jeff Rees on August 20, 2007 1:40 PM |

Council tax will be scrapped and replaced with local income tax as early as April 2010 under an SNP government plan that is certain to cause a massive cross-Border conflict with Westminster (the British).
One senior source in the Scottish government said: "We are not going to get into a position where the Treasury (British) can second-guess the legitimate responsibilities of the Scottish Parliament."

However local government is financed in Wales, the system should be decided by the Senedd not by the British.

A Welsh Local Income Tax would stand for Welsh interests. I think the current British Council Tax is very, very unfair!

I have had a discussion with German, Welsh and English friends - all together - recently. Somebody said Britain has the new communism. From then on we had a heated discussion. Food is expensive or not available. If you go to the Co-op in Machynlleth on Friday evening there are many empty shelves. I had only seen this in the former East Germany when I visited relatives in the 80s. The prices for coffee are extremely high, esp. fresh coffee which people everywhere on the continent drink. My Mum sends me coffeee from Germany every months. It can be difficult to buy toiletries (unless you are in Cardiff) and I mean just simple things like hair products or face cream. There is no choice here.
A new tax system in Wales would mean for me that the people in general have more money left over to buy little things. At the moment there seems to be a constant struggle for people to make ends meet.

After being in Wales for seven years (with hospital breaks abroad & rehabilitation for my back) I still do not know what they do with the council tax money / the theory is clear but I do not see it practically, I am afraid.
