Plaid Caernarfon AM Alun Ffred Jones said: “It is high time that the Assembly took responsibility for police forces from the Home Office.” Lib Dem Assembly leader Mike German protested: “It is wrong to take police officers from the beat and try to blame the chief constable of behaving with financial irresponsibility. “North Wales received a quarter less grant per head of population from the Home Office than South Wales.” But Tory social justice spokesman Mark Isherwood accused the Home Office of underfunding North Wales policing, and failing to refund the full £1m cost of the failed police merger fiasco. “The UK Government must not be allowed to get away with this cynical sleight of hand,” he said.

Others not dependent on the British Home Office but independent to decide for themselves what is best for their society act.

Finland's Ministry of Interior has allocated 2 million euros to hire unemployed police officers. The funds can be used to provide work for 100 police officers for six months this year.
