NOT FUNNY - STUPID

Posted by Jeff Rees on February 28, 2007 5:07 PM |

Is Rhodri Morgan fit for purpose any longer? These are the kind of international headlines he is generating in our most important overseas tourism market.

Wales's First Minister Rhodri Morgan faced criticism today for a joke about Democratic Unionist Party leader Ian Paisley on his deathbed.

In 2005 (the most recent figures) tourists from the Republic of Ireland visiting Wales:

Made 215000 Visits
Stayed 725000 Nights
Spent 49 million GBP

We cannot afford to have him and his like jeopardise Wales's reputation.

I do not think much of Rhodri Morgan. To be honest I do not know what he does for the Welsh people. The Irish seem very close to the Welsh / both Celtic. Personally, I see many cars with Irish number plates in Wales, the same amount of Dutch, then maybe German. I do not see many French tourists here. Students in Aberystwyth for example come from numerous countries. I do not believe in nationalistic jokes - it can be very naive & painful. It happens on English TV all the time against Germans, mentioning the Second World War. Likewise, I do not find anti-English jokes from the Welsh funny. This is also stupid!!
@Anthony Lynch: I agree with you 100% what you say about the elected politicians. I never liked the health minister Mrs Jane Hutt who asked the question about the Health System in Wales & said, What crisis? All very dangerous people whom you cannot trust. I was happy about the Assembly - but I cannot see any of the work they do. I do not think much will change in the next years. I must say compared to 10 years ago, Wales has gone downhill. Then you must not wonder why ordinary young people do not show an interest in the politics anymore. What does it matter?
