DAY CARE TO IMPROVE CHILDREN'S DEVELOPMENT

The minister also emphasised her opinion that day care should not be seen as a service to help parents meet the demands of their jobs, but rather as a means to improve a child's development and well-being.

We must have affordable day care for all, available in every community in Wales.

What I noticed in Wales is that grandparents often look after a child. This is not right. Parents need to go back to Wales far too soon after the birth of a child. I have never seen kindergardens as such but I know there are nursaries. Some parents worry about nannies. I would not want to bring up a child in Wales.
In the Sunday Times last week there was a great article in the magazine about teenage pregnancies. This is what a person from abroad really notices. The children of those mothers need help to improve a child's development. The little ones should have equal chances in life as children from rich families and academic older parents.
