CYMRU-WALES TREASURY BILLS

Posted by Jeff Rees on February 17, 2007 10:04 AM |

Québec Treasury bills are short-term debt securities issued at a discount by the Québec government. Each week, the government offers 91-day securities at auction to major financial institutions and, once every month, securities for terms of 182 and 364 days. The auction results are published on the ministère des Finances website and in major media.

The Government of Quebec is competent to issue debt financing instruments for its expenditure as nearly all Governments do. There is no practical reason why a Welsh Government could not do the same and be scrutinised effectively for it, other than the reluctance of the British to yield power.
